Upstairs Bathroom

Looks like Dugan has started installing the plumbing fixtures. This is the big double-ended clawfoot tub in the upstairs bathroom.

It has a shower attachment and a big shower curtain ring

The throne. Need I say more? Actually, we originally spec'd the Kohler Cimmaron but value-engineered to the Kohler Wellworth. It's a pretty standard Home Depot model, this one being an elongated, comfort-height (apparently better for flushing...no comment).

This is the IKEA vanity with the IKEA sink. The faucet is a Grohe Eurodisk series.

Russian Birch Ply

Here's a closeup of the fireplace cabinet. It's a birch veneer plywood.
Looking inside the cabinet. The edges are exposed so that the multiple layers are visible.

Cabinets

The long awaited cabinetry has been installed. This is the bench seating w/drawers for the entry area. Those holes are for the heat register and elec. outlet.

Our kitchen.

And More Lighting

Here are the sconces in the living room. They're similar to the ones in the stairwell, except these have a metal reflector on one side so you can direct the light. It swivels so that it can be used as ambient light (like this) or directed down for a reading light.

Same light, just a brighter picture.

These are the pendants over our kitchen island. We'll put in different bulbs that direct the light downward for less glare.

This is a fun little thing - a company based out of Seattle, called spOre, makes these doorbell ringers as well a doorbells and house letters. They have an LED light built in and glows in the night. They also come in a variety of colors - we chose this amber one.

And More Tile

The subway tile in Lola's bathroom has been grouted and sealed.

This is the glass tile for our master bathroom - it's only half way down the wall right now. It'll cover that entire wall, floor to ceiling. Daltile, Sonterra collection, in cancun blue.

Cabinets have arrived!

Here's Dugan installing our kitchen hood, with all the cabinetry in the backround

Kitchen cabinets are maple, and our fireplace cabinetry is Russian birch ply, similar to apple ply.

Cabinetry

Keep checking back this week - the cabinetry for the kitchen, fireplace and entry bench seating is arriving tomorrow (Monday 1/22)! We'll try and get in tomorrow or the next day for pictures.

Toxic Stuff is ON!

Here it is - 2 coats of solvent-based polyurethane, ie Swedish Finish. 3rd coat will go on right before we move in.

The owner of the flooring company told Dugan that we needed atleast 2 coats of the solvent based stuff and also added that the water-based finish wasn't exactly non-toxic either. In the end, I went with all 3 coats of toxic stuff because the good news is that it should only take a week to off-gas and we shouldn't have any issues by the time we move in.

It sure is shiny...

Casing Primed

Door and window casings upstairs have been primed, as well as all of the doors.

More Tile

The floor tile has been grouted and looks like the subway tile is finished but not yet grouted.

We think Dugan did an excellent job. All those tiles were laid individually...

This will be Lola and her sister's future bathroom!

Back Landing

So, there was enough leftover bamboo to cover the back landing too - a much nicer upgrade from the old brick-patterned sheet vinyl that was there!

More Bamboo

The bamboo floor installation is complete, with the exception of part of the stairs.

Casing around the first floor windows is also complete

They will begin the floor finish tomorrow

Bamboo Flooring

The bamboo floors are being installed

It's unfinished carbonized (darker stain than natural - after the finish is on, it'll have a deep golden color) and vertical grain. We're doing a modified Swedish finish on this because a true Swedish finish is really toxic, it's solvent based and contains formaldehyde, but that's also the reason why it's so durable. The flooring guy suggested that we do a solvent based first coat and a water based second and third coat, that way the toxic stuff is sealed under 2 layers. We also looked at a Polyx oil product that is really a wax that you can spot refinish in the future. There were mixed reviews and in the end, we decided on the modified Swedish finish for its durability.

More Tile

Here's the tile for the kids' bathroom. It's Daltile Octagon and Dot.

The 1x1 tile in our bathroom has been grouted.

Our bamboo finally arrived for our first floor. They have to sit in the house for a couple days to acclimate before being installed. Our cabinetry is finished as well but we have to wait for the bamboo to be installed before the cabinets can be delivered.

Light Fixtures

The electrician has begun installing our light fixures. There are two of these "Nobi" fixtures in our stairwell, on a dimmer.

Here's a closeup. The lense can be rotated around an axis.

Here are the sconces from Resolute for our bedroom reading lights. The light bulbs are just temporary - there's actually a lot of different options for the bulb.

Here is our typical ceiling mounted light for the bedrooms and a couple other rooms. Again, the bulb is temporary and we'll probably do a translucent globe bulb here to minimize glare.

Lastly, this is our typical outdoor light for the porch and master bedroom deck.

Plumbing Fixtures

We got a shipment of plumbing fixtures today

Here's our double-ended clawfoot tub (without the feet for the time being)

Here is the vanity for the master bath (it's our old china cabinet - metal and glass with a concrete top) We'll put the vessel sink (to the right of it) on top. Dugan's going to just drill a couple holes for the sink on the concrete and metal to make this all work.

Here's our pedestal sink (in 2 pieces) for the downstairs bathroom

The sink to the right of the vessel sink is our IKEA sink for Lola's bathroom.

Basement primed

They've shot a coat of primer all over the basement walls and open ceiling. We'll do the painting sometime in the future ourselves.
