Those horizontal boards will be replaced by 1/2" plywood sheathing.

- This house was built in 1929 on 6" unreinforced concrete foundation walls and 2x4 walls and rafters. After over 2 years of planning, procrastinating and surprise early arrivals (aka Lola), our house project is under way. We're gutting almost the entire first floor and adding a full second story. The basement is getting some interior drains under the slab as well as a couple new footings and posts to support the new loads.

are you recycling all that side wall lumber? I hear the sound of a humming planer
how much stuff will you recycle or is it all new?
I didn't know what we could do with the existing sheathing that we ripped off. We're reusing our existing doors and newer windows. Our hardwoods weren't great - oak in the living room was very thin and top-nailed, the bedrooms had fir floors - pretty but very soft. Other than that, there wasn't much left to reuse. We're reusing all of those existing perimeter stud walls though...
